The Android 2.2 (Froyo) for Xperia X8
Are you one of those Xperia X8 users who believe to get the official Froyo upgrade from Sony Ericsson? Well, I was one.
One of the downfalls to the Xperia X8 when it launched, apart from not having multi touch, is that the handset also came with an outdated OS upon release. When announced, Donut (Android 1.6) was fine but, by the time Sony Ericsson released the handset, Eclair (Android 2.1) was already out. The OS has since been updated to Eclair (Android 2.1) although many (me aswell) were hoping Sony Ericsson would skip Eclair and head straight to Froyo (Android 2.2), or at the very least update soon after to Froyo. Android Gingerbread (Android 2.3) is out now though and there’s still no sign of Froyo from the Sony Ericsson on the Xperia X8. I spend few weeks looking on the whole internet for positive answer and I’m sorry to say that: It won’t be any official update with Froyo Or Gingerbread for your Xperia X8. The phone maker, Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Xperia X8 will see no further Android OS updates beyond Eclair, the Android 2.1 . The news is likely to come as a significant disappointment to early adopters of Sony Ericsson’s Android range.
While the handsets won’t receive any further Android updates, Sony Ericsson have said they will continue to release minor firmware upgrades to the handset. Still, if you want to get Froyo or Gingerbread to your X8, it looks like unofficial ROMs are the only way to get them.

Hi, I am X8 user too, I also hope Sony Ericsson make a Froyo upgrade for X8, so I can download and Install applications to my external memory (SD memory)……………..

That’s kind of disappointing but not the end of this device… I guess I have to end my rental plan and upgrade to one X10 or something else. Thanks for the news

Sony Ericsson X8 is good but it just at the first time of using only..if and bored later when phone memory is full..it seems unfair for the old user when there is no customisation and it seems in the well which be with the narrow experience.

Really? Why does Sony Ericsson need a year or two to update x8 to outdated v2.2 of android? There is a Gingerbread already and several Android manufacturers makes their update so often.
OK, I’d be satisfied with Froyo on my x8. Why isn’t multitouch possible? It seems to be functioning on rooted phones!
I heard that when upgrading x8 to the v2.2 there are some issues like not working camera in video recording, media player problems and cant switch from flight mode. I would like to know that, is there any issues in v2.1 , I think its a recommended upgrade for x8.. (is multi touching working on v2.1, I think in v2.2froyo, multi touching is enabled )
