The Xperia X8 comes with, a selection of ringtones. While some people may find something usable amidst the pre-installed options, others might prefer a wider selection of tones for your new Sony Ericsson Xperia X8. It is pretty easy to install new ringtones on your new device and I would like to show you how to do it. This simple guide show you how to quick and easy install ring-tones on Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, lets go:
First, you’ll need to find some ringtones you like. To make things as simple as possible, make sure your ringtones are MP3 files. Also, they should typically be 30-seconds or less in length. Over the internet is plenty of sites with free mp3 ring-tones where you can easy and legally download some for the Xperia X8.
Once you have some great ringtones downloaded in your computer, you need to follow those instructions:
- Ensure your micro SD card is in your Sony Ericsson Xperia X8
- Connect your phone to the computer using the supplied USB cable
- If your Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 does not mount automatically, touch the USB icon that appears in the menu bar at the top of the display, drag it down to expose the Android Notification Pane, then tap on USB Connected and select Mount
- Using a file explorer in your computer, navigate to the root folder (the main directory) of the memory card in your Sony Ericsson Xperia X8
- Create a new folder called ringtones (lowercase “r”)
- Simply copy all of the MP3 ring-tones you want on your Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 into the new ringtones folder
- Unmount your Xperia X8 and all the new ringtones will become available as options when changing your ringtone in the phone

here’s how to set a different message tone from your notification tone on your Sony Ericsson xperia x8. first go to settings then tap on Sony Ericsson followed by messaging then finally tap on notifications and choose you tone. note: this tone will be specifically for incoming message only which means you can choose a different tone for you alert notifications.

How do I change message tone on Sony Ericsson Xperia X8?
The default SMS message notification ringtone really irritates me. Hence I already tried to change it from Settings -> Sound & Display -> Notification ringtone. I change it to another music and tap on ‘Save’ on top. But when I get new SMS message I still get that default ringtone – it doesn’t ring the one which I selected before. When I go back to the Notification ringtone, I can see see the music which I had selected before has a tick mark(it is selected). But it’s just not working and I don’t know what to do. Thanks for advice.
Simply go to Messaging
Click menu button (the left one)
Tap settings
Search and tap Select ringtone
Find the one you like to use it.
Job done.

I used to set mp3 as my message tone..one day, when I choose song, I accidentally tap use default tone (check sign). After that I cannot use my mp3 or android tone for message ringtone.
How to reactivate the default ringtones? So I can use my mp3 song as message tones.
I followed the above step, it still doesn’t work..:(
It’s frustrating, I’m googling, search in se.com, useless.

Hello, I have the SE Xperia X8 and I have downloaded some ringtones onto my laptop. There is no folders of anything on my phone to paste them into, I’ve tried to make a new folder to put the ring tones into but when I make a folder and put ringtones into it – I cant find the folder when I go on my phone? Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong? Thanx.
Hi Jason. If you followed all steps from this guide you should see the new folder in root of your SD card. If you don’t have any file manager, install the Astro Manager from the Android Market. You can get free or paid version. Astro will open right on root of the SD card and you’ll see the folder right there. Check it please and let me know if you need anymore advice.
