This step-by-step user guide should help you to connect your Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 to a Wi-Fi network.
If you’re using your Xperia X8 for the first time, you can easily select the Wi-Fi network you’d like to join using the setup manager.
When you opt in for either Mobile Network or Wi-Fi, or just Wi-Fi, the Xperia X8 will by default try to connect to a Wi-Fi with the strongest connection (network near you).
Select the network you wish to connect to, enter the password if required and you’re done.
If you want to change the settings, or set it up for the first time, you can do this through the Settings menu.
Note: If you’re attempting to access a network-based page or app, you may be required to set up a new Wi-Fi connection. When prompted, select the option to set up a new connection.
- Access the Wi-Fi settings menu by navigating to the Wireless & networks menu
- Select Wi-Fi settings
- Choose a listed network, or add a hidden network by selecting Add Wi-Fi network
- If you choose one of the listed networks and it’s secured, enter the password, press Connect and you’ll be connected to that network
- If you wish to access a hidden network, select Add Wi-Fi network and enter the SSID
- If a password is required, you’ll be prompted to enter this before connecting
If Wi-Fi is turned off, you can now turn this on by ticking the box in the Wireless & networks menu.

i got an X8 today & after setting up wifi, I tried to connect to the internet but failed to get any connection. The phone says the connection is excellent but if I try & open a webpage all i get is “loading” for ages & it never connects! – maybe a dud phone? the touchscreen seems to do things all by itself too – sometimes nothing at all next opening a different item from what I want!
another annoying thing is how all the user guide is on the microSD card they give with the phone so if , like me, you want to fit your own larger one in with all your music etc , the guide is no longer there!
Im sending it back to Orange actually & going to get a Nokia again! – very disappointing!
After connecting to wifi connection how can I access Internet through wifi
I’m not able to connect Wi-Fi on my Sony Ericsson X8. The connection is excellent and I connect it nicely to the network. But it doesn’t obtain the IP address. And I’m sure i enter the correct password. And I even use the same WiFi network on my laptop.
May your problem is length of the channel on your Wi-Fi router.
Nick had the same problem. His Xperia X8 couldn’t even see the Wi-Fi network so he changed the wi-fi network channel from 11 to channel #8 and it works for him. You can change it to different number, it should work with any channel number from 1 to 9. Good luck.
I’m not able to connect to the internet. But i do have a wifi connection. My phone shows that it is connected but when I surf the web, I cannot connect. What is wrong with this?
Can you try it on another WiFi router?
May your router is set for channel #11. If you know how, change the channel on the router for lower number of channel.
Xperia X8 for some reason can’t work with channel 10 and 11. Just try number 1-9 and let us know.
my wifi is in channel 3..and also i can’t connect to the internet using my network provider..my gprs/3g is already activated..how come i can’t connect to the internet? i can’t even send an mms..
maybe there’s something wrong with my phone..i think i should consult the sony ericsson service center in our area..

Yes, if you have Sony Ericsson Service Center around, the best way is to see them. Your phone is SE model and they do care about it. If is not working properly they’ll help you to set it up or replace it for working one.

I have a Sony Ericsson and I am unable to connect to the internet via wifi. I can pick up the wifi signal and when I’m asked for the password to get on, I do not have the option to press enter. This is unusual because everyone else can get online through their phone. On top of that I can access wifi at other places. I’m unsure if this is a problem with my phone or with the wifi settings at home.

It’s your WiFi settings at home. Have look at the home router and try to set the channel number from 1 to 9. Don’t use any higher number. It looks like the X8 can’t properly read channel 10 and 11.

I can’t help here because all information from you is you can’t connect to the internet. That’s not enough for us to find the solution. Are you trying to connect using the WiFi router or to the 3g? If WiFi, can you see the WiFi network? Is the password you are using right? What channel it the WiFi network? Did you try to connect to different WiFi network?

I cannot connect with wifi at home. Everywhere else I have no problem. I changed the channel from 11 to 6 but still no results. My X8 sees the wifi signal but when I type the password it says that I didn’t type it right. However with other devices and phones I am not facing any problems with the password.
I’m sorry that the channel changing didn’t work for you. Anyway I have more ideas. Can you try to change WiFi router password? It may be that the Xperia X8 can’t (for some reason) send the special or extended characters like *@>/. Try to use numbers and letters only.
WiFi compatibility: New WiFi routers are 802.11n. It’s backwards compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g. Anyway, try to play with it. Some people are using auto mode some can’t. It depends of the router make and model. Definitely don’t set it to “n only” mode.
Try to avoid using WPA2. I know with WPA2 you get the best security but the X8 may have a problem with that. The same with encryption. Use TKIP instead of AES.
I know it’s lots of setting but we will find the way. If the Xperia X8 is working everywhere else, the problem is in your router setting.

If you want to connect with your SE Xperia X8 to a router it has to be wireless (Wi-Fi). The router has to send the signal to your Xperia X8 using the Wi-Fi technology. the answer is YES, it has to be Wi-Fi router. Enjoy.

The wi-fi on my X8 worked fine for ages but in last couple of days it has stopped working for some reason. I use the purity wi-fi app to connect but whenever I try now it says no connections in range; even when I’m sitting next to the same working wireless router that I’ve always used. Can you help?

I’m sorry for your trouble, could you please to connect to another WiFi router you used to use? If there is not a problem with connecting to another router, you know it’s not the X8 but the router. Try to restart the Wireles router, it may help.
