How to Enable or disable GPRS

As the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is getting more popular, we get lots of question here in comments about easy things. The winning question of this week is turning on and off the GPRS data or using another words, disabling or enabling the 3G Internet connection to stop decreasing your credit. It’s really easy to turn off or on the data connection.

You can use widget and stick it on your desktop. Good one for me is Data Enabler Widget. Just search the Android Market, find and install the Data Enabler Widget. Then go to your home screen, click on menu (the left button) and add this widget to your screen.

Another way, a bit complicated but it work all the time without any hiccups is the manual switching anytime you need to turn on or off the Internet data connection.

Find on your screen Settings
Tap the Wireless controls
Then Mobile networks
Find and tick or un-tick Data traffic

That’s it. It’s simply but somebody need to tell you, specially if you have Android Phone for very first time. Don’t be shy, you can ask our team anything you wish, we are here to help you.

I have downloaded the latest software from Sony Ericsson and now my Xperia does not recognise the correct password for my home wi-fi network.I am concerned that this is a widespread problem of downloading the upgrade. What do you suggest?

I think the problem is the length of the channel on your Wi-Fi router.
I had the same problem. My Xperia X8 couldn’t see the wifi network with new Android version 2.1. So I’ve changed the wi-fi network channel from 11 to channel no 8 and it works great. You can change it to different number, it should work perfect with any channel from 1 to 9. Try and let us know, Nick.

Hi Geetha, You should try it somewhere else, ti may be only low quality of signal. If it won’t work anywhere else, pop to your mobile operator shop and ask them because it’ll be probaly SIM or network issue.

Hi Martine,
If you already tried everything with no luck, there is one more shot. Contact your provider and ask them to send the setting. I’m sorry I can’t help.
